Director

Prof. Dr. Philippe C. Cattin

Philippe C. Cattin is Assistant-Professor for Medical Image Analysis and Image-Guided Interventions at the University of Basel, Switzerland. He earned his B.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Applied Sciences in Brugg-Windisch, Switzerland and the M.Sc. at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Switzerland in 1991 and 1995. He finished his doctoral thesis on biometric systems at the Institute of Robotics, ETH Zurich in 2002. After his Ph.D. he was leading the Medical Image Analysis Group of the Computer Vision Laboratory at the ETH Zurich until 2007. In late 2007 Philippe Cattin founded and is still heading the Medical Image Analysis Center at the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel, Switzerland. The new chair was made possible by an endowment from the Swiss entrepreneur Dr. Hansjörg Wyss (Synthes). It is linked to the research focus "Clinical Morphology and Biomedical Engineering" (CMBE) at the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel.

Philippe C. Cattin acts as a reviewer in the area of Medical Image Analysis and Biometric Systems for international Journals and Conferences. His main focus of research include capturing and modeling organ motion, elastic image registration and image segmentation. Philippe Cattin is heading the Image-Guided Therapy major of the Biomedical Engineering Master Program at the Universities of Berne and Basel. He is a member of the IEEE and the MICCAI society.
